Rush the Growler was pleased to perform a special set titled, "Music of the Civil War and the 154th New York Volunteer Infantry." Scott's great-great grandfather served in that regiment, and our selections included many songs by, for, and about the men of that unit. The Cattaraugus Museum is located at 9824 Route 16 in Machias, N.Y.
"Brave and True, Always Such has Anson Been," at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Wesley NY (South of Gowanda)- Saturday, March 22, 2014
We performed for a memorial service for Private Anson Park, a soldier in the 154th New York Volunteer Infantry back in the Civil War. The 19 year old Park died in a hospital, 150 years ago that weekend. The songs that we performed came from poems from the Park family. One was written by Anson's cousin, Andrew Park, and the other was written about Anson on the occasion of his death. We have set both of the poems to period melodies and debuted the songs as part of the memorial service this day. The service was held at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Wesley, NY, south of Gowanda. The cemetery where Anson is buried is nearby.
